What Orthodontic Treatment Options Are Best for My Teenager?
There are a few different types of braces available for teenage patients. Obviously, the most common is the tried-and-true traditional braces model. Metal braces are very durable and can be personalized with different colored rubber bands, while clear/ceramic braces are much subtler while offering the same great results.
For teens that don't like the look of traditional braces, Invisalign® Clear Aligners could be the perfect option! In fact, there’s a specific subset of the treatment called Invisalign Teen.
The Benefits of Invisalign Teen
Invisalign consists of a series of clear, removable aligners that are worn in a certain order to gradually shift teeth over time. Your son or daughter won’t have to worry about a mouthful of metal!
There are some specific alterations with Invisalign Teen as well to make them easier/more successful for younger patients. Each clear custom aligner includes a blue dot that fades as it’s used. This fading blue dot has two functions: to help our team gauge how well the treatment is working and to remind the wearer to switch to the next aligner in their set. Additionally, if an aligner is broken or lost (which is definitely more common with younger patients, despite all of our best efforts), Invisalign Teen also allows a greater number of backup aligners, available upon request.
