5 Tips to Keep in Mind While Dating with Invisalign

a couple on a date

Invisalign has quickly become one of the most exciting orthodontic treatments available! Patients absolutely love these clear aligners because they’re convenient and discreet—they don’t inhibit your lifestyle at all! That said, you might still have doubts about a few things when it comes to Invisalign, including your ability to date. The good news is that you can still be quite charming and sociable while the aligners work their magic.

1. Stick to Your Wear Schedule

Even on date nights or during afternoon escapes, it’s important to wear your Invisalign aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. If you remove them to eat or drink, be mindful of how long they’re out and put them back in as soon as possible to avoid slowing your treatment. You might feel tempted to take them out while with that special someone, but since they’re practically invisible while being worn, you don’t need to needlessly impede your progress!

2. Remove Your Aligners Before Eating

Always take your aligners out before entrees, snacks, appetizers, and desserts. Store them in their protective case rather than a napkin table-side to prevent damage or accidental disposal. This simple habit helps keep your aligners safe and your treatment right on track—plus it keeps them from being stained.

3. Brush or Rinse After Each Meal

After eating, brushing your teeth is ideal before putting your aligners back in. If brushing is impossible, rinsing your mouth with water can help to reduce bacteria and keep your aligners clean until you can at least brush properly. And good advice for any date, whether you wear Invisalign or not, try not to order something too pungent, so if you can’t immediately brush, your breath or trays won’t smell.

4. Be Smart About Drinks

Avoid wearing your aligners while drinking anything other than clear water. Sugary, acidic, or dark-colored beverages can stain aligners and also harm your teeth if the particles become trapped underneath. Rinse or brush your teeth before putting your liners back in, every time.

5. Stay Confident

Invisalign is designed to be discreet, so most people won’t even notice you’re wearing your trays. If it ever comes up, being open about your treatment also shows confidence and commitment to your smile—which is attractive in its own right. With good habits, you can enjoy dating without worrying about your Invisalign progress at all!
